JOHN SUMMERFORD Actor & Director

As an actor, JOHN SUMMERFORD has performed nationally in the tour of Company and regionally in such productions as Twelfth Night (Orsino), Godspell (Jesus), Bye Bye Birdie (Albert), Brigadoon (Tommy), Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow), Colette Collage (Jacques), The Will Rogers Follies , Annie, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, A Chorus Line and Sweeney Todd among others at theatres which include Trinity Repertory Company, The New Harmony Theatre, Ogunquit Playhouse and The Cape Playhouse. John has also contributed to a number of new projects and workshops, portraying the artist Emile Bernard in the new play The Room at The York Theatre Company, Bertini in the new musical Portofino (cast recording) and in Shine! at St. Luke's Theatre (cast recording). He can also be heard singing with Faith Prince on Fynsworth Alley's re-release of REDHEAD (Original Gwen Verdon Cast Recording).

John serves as Artistic Director of EMERGING STAGE PRODUCTIONS through which he has a number of projects in development for NY venues. Other Directing credits include Design for Living, Anything Goes, Babes in Arms, Benefit Galas and One-Act Festivals (including Special Skills for Sounding Theatre Company and the award winning Eating Around the Nuts which he also wrote). Off-Broadway, John has served as Assistant Director on Sin: A Cardinal Deposed starring John Cullum for The New Group (OBIE Award & 2 Drama Desk Nominations) and Ionesco's The Bald Soprano & The Lesson for Atlantic Theater Company.
John is an alumnus of the Atlantic Theater Company Acting Program and he holds a degree in Economics from Trinity College (Hartford) while also attending Columbia University and La Universitá Cattolica (Milan).
